This was the scene that greeted fire investigation officers at a burned-out, derelict building in Epsom this morning after a suspected arson attack yesterday.

Four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to Court Lane at around 4.30pm on September 28 following "multiple calls" from the public.

The abandoned building was said to be well alight when firefighters arrived.

Chertsey, Banstead, Leatherhead and Epsom fire stations all dispatched crews to the fire, while Surrey Fire and Rescue Service warned people to stay away from the area.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.

Russell Giles from Red Watch at Banstead Fire Station said: "About 70 per cent of the property was pretty much destroyed.

"We have fire investigation officers there this morning having a look.

"We were at the scene for approximately four hours."
