Epsom high street remains closed while police and ambulance staff deal with a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

According to a spokesman from South East Coast Ambulance (SECAM) paramedics were called to the A24 Epsom High Street, on the junction of Ashley Road, at 2.45pm this afternoon.

Two ambulances and a paramedic car arrived and treated an 80-year-old woman, who is believed to be the pedestrian, at the scene before taking her to St George’s Hospital in Tooting as an urgent priority.

She is believed to have suffered several injuries including one to the head. Her condition is not known at present.

The A24 High Street is closed and there is reported to be slow traffic in both directions close to the scene especially between A2022 Upper High Street and Ashley Road. Diversions are in operation via B284 and Worple Road.

This is the second incident to affect the A24 today as early this morning, further down the road in Ashtead, a three car pile-up led to a 20-year-old man having to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters.
