Church members handed out 600 slices of cake at their monthly cake stall in the centre of Epsom on Saturday.

The popular event took place from 10.15am for just over two hours outside the Metro bank, and ended when volunteers ran out of slices of cake at around 12.15pm.

The monthly event has been hosted on the third Saturday of every month since April this year and is solely organised by members of the King's Church with the aim of ‘demonstrating God’s love to the community’.

All the cakes handed out to the public were baked by church members in the church’s kitchen or their own homes and included 10 variations of homemade cakes, cupcakes and muffins.

Your Local Guardian:

Carole Latham, an active church member, said: “We really just want to be there for people and show we care. We’re happy to be able to give something for free, and if people want a chat we’re there for them.”

This month church members were treated to a cake of their own as community members baked one to say thank you for the service they run.

Commenting on this Ms Latham said: “Funnily, some people actually baked a cake for us to say thank you which was a surprise and really lovely!”
