A biker has died from his injuries after being hurled through the air when his motorcycle collided with a Mercedes and caught fire.

The man suffered fatal injuries during the crash in Reigate Road, at the Drift Bridge, in Nork, at 4.45pm on Monday.

On Wednesday Surrey Police said the man was 27 years old, but on Thursday police issued a correction and said that in fact he was 46. 

He was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting and today police said he had died at the hospital and appealed for witnesses.

Motorcycle collides with car and catches fire

On Monday the biker, who has not yet been named, was driving southbound on the Reigate Road when he crashed into a Mercedes which was coming the other way and turning into a driveway.

It is understood that after hitting the car, the Triumph motorcycle was propelled through the air, before hitting the ground and bursting into flames.

Surrey Police said: "Emergency services attended the scene and the man was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting with serious injuries where he later died.

"Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the events leading up to it to come forward as a matter of urgency."
