Sports presenter John Inverdale launched an appeal for funds to help bereaved and terminally-ill men in Esher.
Presenter: Visited the West End Lane hospice
The well-known broadcaster visited Princess Alice Hospice on Wednesday to launch its Man Shed appeal, which aims to provide a sanctuary where men can rediscover a sense of purpose.
Mr Inverdale said: "As a regular visitor to Princess Alice Hospice, I am incredibly excited about this project.
"I have seen the care and support it delivers. As a man I can empathise with others of my sex who sometimes try to tough it out but I also know how important it is to share a trouble.
"Man Shed will enable blokes to mix, chat and employ their practical skills in meaningful and rewarding ways."
It will be available to hospice residents as well as men in its care area, including bereaved husbands, men caring for their partners or coming to terms with their own terminal illness.
The hospice needs to raise £100,000 to build the Man Shed on its grounds in West End Lane.
This will be the second Man Shed project in the UK and its purpose is to provide a practical, creative environment for those who find it hard to open up and allow them to connect to others in a similar situation.
