Firefighters have been called to fight a fire at a family home this afternoon.

Fire engines have been called to Chapel Way, which has reportedly been closed, by Great Tattenhams.

A Surrey Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "We were called to a house fire in Chapel Way at 13:29 and when we arrived, the bungalow was well alight.

"We sent six appliances to scene and a fire investigation will take place to establish the cause."

Community Facebook group, What’s on in Banstead, said: "Reports from a number of followers about a fire on Chapel Way.

“Emergency services on the scene but roads are blocked so please attempt to avoid the area to help with congestion."

Vicky Heavey posted on the page: "Yes there is a house fire, road blocked of and surrounding roads congested."

Charlotte White added: "Just driven past it looks awful, poor people.”

Kerry Adams said: "There must've been over a dozen emergency vehicles travelling to it. Hope all are safe now."

Lisa Jones said: "Bloody hell wondered what was going on looked out my kitchen window and I couldn't [sic] see thick smoke everywhere and smell of burning! Hope they are all safe."

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: "Surrey Police is assisting with road closures at Chapel way at its junction with Great Tattenhams Road."
