A West End star who has performed on stages around the world is getting ready to appear at a theatre near her childhood home.

Frances Fry, who grew up in Banstead, used to belong to a local amateur theatre group called St Paul's and performed at the Epsom Playhouse.

After a career in the West End, Ms Fry is returning once again to the playhouse as part of a musical theatre group called the WestEnders.

She says: "It's always really lovely when we go there. It's one of those theatres that is really personal. Everyone seems to care about what they do there."

Ms Fry met fellow performer Jill Nalder on the set of Oliver! at the London Palladium under the direction of Oscar winner Sam Mendes.

Together they went on to found the WestEnders. Its members have, between them, appeared in more than 20 West End shows.

She says: "It's a bit of a family. I hope that comes across in the performance. We all like each other and have worked together for many years."

The WestEnders’ new show celebrates Les Miserables and features song from other musicals such as Phantom on the Opera, West Side Story and Wicked.

The playhouse says: "Backed by top musicians and exciting new arrangements this is a not-to-be-missed night for all lovers of the musicals."
