A woman in a silver Jaguar who hit a schoolgirl and left her needing metal pins in her ankle has contacted the police.

The 12-year-old Blenheim High School student, from Stoneleigh, was hit last Monday, February 9, while crossing Longmead Road at 3.25pm.

The female driver of a silver car – later confirmed to be a Jaguar by an eyewitness – stopped to check if the girl was ok.

When told by her that she was fine, the woman drove away.

Although the teenager’s injuries did not appear to be serious immediately after the accident, she underwent a one-and-a-half hour operation on her ankle at the weekend.

Her father Dean White, 42, contacted this newspaper to make an appeal for the woman to come forward to explain what happened, given the severity of his daughter’s injuries.

This afternoon, Mr White said the woman had made contact with the police.

Surrey Police issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward earlier this week.

A spokesman for Surrey Police explained that if a driver hits a pedestrian or a car and stops to check if they are OK or to give their details, there was no legal obligation on them to then report the incident to the police.
