A vehicle driven by elderly driver smashed into a parked car outside a parade of shops this afternoon.

The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance after her car crashed into a 4X4 in Great Tattenhams at 3.40pm.

A firefighter from Banstead fire station said they assisted paramedics who were worried about her spine and chest pains. He said: "Our involvement was in stabilising the vehicles."

Rebecca Prideaux posted on community Facebook group What’s on in Banstead: "Just to reassure everyone, this was my sister Rachael. She was parked and out of the car.

"An elderly lady hit her car at high speed and both cars written off. The lady went to hospital but was breathing and conscious."
