Former builder Michael Armstrong is set to play alongside BRIT Award winner Beverley Craven at the Epsom Playhouse next month.

Mr Armstrong signed a record deal in 2011 when he left a demo CD at a record label boss’ house after completing kitchen works.

Mr Armstrong says: "I think we have very similar musical styles, Beverley’s a singer songwriter who writes about her own experiences, as we both do. We both try to sell the stories behind the songs onstage.

"I’m hugely looking forward to playing with Beverley. She’s playing in the main room, so this’ll be my first time in the main room!

"My wife, when she was growing up in the 90s as a young woman, she absolutely loved Beverley’s debut album at a very formative time of her life.

"She was thrilled to meet up with her, we also saw her on tour at one of her individual shows."

Michael has lived in Banstead for 15 years, moving into the area when he married, having since raised three sons aged 8, 11 and 14.

He says: "They keep me busy. I’ve got my own band now!"

Mr Armstrong spent 2014 touring with Peter Howarth, the lead singer of the Hollies, an experience he describes as "unbelievable", and is due to start a new national tour for 2015.

He will also be releasing a new album which he says is "mostly about the characters that you meet in everyday life."

"I’ve worked in London all my life but having kids go to school in the local area you make a new circle of friends.

The first single off his album, out later this year, is being released on March 2 called The Radio Years.
