Think ahead about how best to recycle the mountain of leftovers, old wrapping paper, cards and trees this Christmas.
From Monday, January 5, people in Epsom and Ewell can leave their real Christmas trees next to their green refuse bin on their normal collection day.
Normal rubbish collections on New Year’s Day have been moved to January 2.
Some rubbish and recycling collection dates have also been brought forward over the festive season in Mole Valley and Reigate and Banstead.
In Mole Valley, anyone with a garden waste bin can cut up their tree and put it in. Alternatively, trees can be recycled at the Ashtead Peace Memorial car park between January 5 and 16.
Members of Reigate and Banstead’s garden waste service can leave their tree out on their usual collection day.
Otherwise, people are advised to take trees to community recycling centres such as the dump in Blenheim Road, Epsom. It is closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Turn Christmas cards into trees by dropping them off at Marks and Spencer stores this January. The Woodland Trust said a new tree will be planted in the UK for every 1,000 cards donated.
A farmers market, which normally takes place on the first Sunday of the month in Epsom marketplace, will not come to Epsom on Sunday, January 3.
