A conman who swindled more than £750k out of unsuspecting shoppers is facing time behind bars after selling pirate DVDs online.
Trevor Pegg, 61, of Epsom was found guilty of 13 different counts – including participating in fraudulent business, possessing criminal property and unauthorised use of a trademark - at Guildford Crown Court last Thursday.
A prosecution was brought against him by Surrey County Council (SCC) for the offences which occurred between 2010 and 2013.
The court heard how Pegg had spent more than three years selling knocked-off versions of popular DVDs including 249 pirated copies of Disney’s Little Mermaid and Mrs Brown’s Boys on websites such as eBay and Play.
His Honour Judge Robert Fraser told Pegg that a prison sentence was “inevitable”.
SCC’s trading standards investigation and enforcement manager said: “Unfortunately, counterfeit goods are still available on the internet.
“There will be lots of fake presents sitting under the Christmas tree at the moment and I’m sure that Mrs Brown would not be amused.”
Pegg is due to be sentenced in January.
A SCC spokesman said it is looking to recover his ill-gotten gains in a special hearing in the New Year.
