A train was delayed at Epsom station because of reports a man throwing things at commuters and being verbally abusive.
A train was held at the station before police officers arrived there just after 9.40pm yesterday.
Carl Denby, 26, of no fixed abode, was arrested and charged with being drunk and disorderly.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said police were called to reports of a man being "verbally abusive and throwing items" at people.
He said: "A train was held at the station for a short time before officers arrived."
Mr Denby has been released on bail to appear at South East Surrey Magistrates’ Court on Friday, December 5.
Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Team said via Facebook that an incident on the railway line "caused danger to the trains".
The team said: "A male was causing problems on the track and with other travellers."
