Police officers carried out patrols by bike and on foot as part of a crackdown on burglaries last week.

Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Team handed out more than 2,000 burglary advice leaflets and stopped suspicious vehicles during the operation on Thursday.

On Friday evening temporary Sergeant Jack Poynter said no homes had been burgled in the borough since the operation started at 9am the previous day.

Sgt Poynter said: "There were no arrests, however the main purpose was to provide high visibility reassurance patrols to the community and to speak with residents and advise them on how to make their homes a safer place."

He added: "The public do need to keep vigilant during these darker nights and to report any suspicious activity to the police using 101 if its not an emergency and 999 if it is an emergency."
