A TV astrologer and actor who made a comeback on Strictly Come Dancing has now provided the voice for Santa’s sat-nav in a Christmas show.

Russell Grant has been recorded while speaking the part of a sat-nav which suddenly goes haywire and leaves Father Christmas stranded in a production for kids.

And in true Christmas spirit, he is giving away half of his fee to charity. The voice actor is donating the money to Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of his late grandmother who he cared for during the 1990s.

He says: "I think it’s wonderful that the show is giving children a truly magical and memorable experience.

"It snows on the audience, and every child gets to meet Santa and receive their own gift which I think is really special.

"For many children this will be the first piece of theatre they have been to, so it’s also a brilliant introduction to theatre and the magic of live performance.

"I’m really excited to be voicing one of the characters, and literally being part of the adventure."

Early on in his career Grant acted in BBC dramas and sitcoms such as On the Buses and Please Sir! then played roles in West End productions like Tom Brown’s Schooldays.

He says: "Astrology, which was only a hobby, then took over when I was signed by the head of BBC news to be the astrologer on BBC Breakfast.

"That was it really, so my whole background is in theatre and film."

After taking part in Strictly Comes Dancing in 2011, he made a comeback and landed the role of the Wizard of Oz in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical. Parts in Grease and Midnight Tango followed.

He says "All in all I think Strictly changed my life, it took me back to where I wanted to be. In a Norma Desmond like fashion, it was my return!"
