Residents are invited to have their say about revised plans for a controversial care home in Ewell.

Developer the Goodman Group has organised a meeting on Thursday over its second planning application for a care home with 150 rooms on Nescot College’s land in Reigate Road.

The group is also appealing to the Planning Inspectorate after Epsom Council rejected its original plans for being "overbearing" and "bulky" with insufficient parking and no affordable rooms.

Under the revised plans, the building is set further back from the main roads and more trees have been added. But many residents remain concerned about its size, traffic, parking issues and loss of green space.

Of the meeting, planning consultant Peter Dines said: "It is being organised to inform all the residents as to what is happening and why. It is open to all residents."

Simon Webster, managing director of the Goodman Group, said: "We have arranged a meeting for local residents on Thursday for The Goodman Group to explain the details of our new planning application and to listen and respond to any questions that residents may have.

"This is a private meeting and we do not want anyone from the press to attend."

In June, Nescot College received planning permission for 91 homes on the rest of the 14-acre site. It plans to sell the land to fund renovations to its campus.

Lindy Seymour, who lives opposite the site in Reigate Road, believes that the proposed care home is still a "monstrosity" that will dominate the area. Mrs Seymour described the meeting as the "last opportunity" for residents to discuss their concerns and find out more information.

The Goodman Group has sent leaflets on its new plan, entitled ‘You spoke, we listened and we responded’, to residents living near the site.

Keith Lugton, chairman of the Standing Committee of Residents' Associations, said: "The Goodman Group are having this meeting so they can give residents the opportunity to have their say and hear answers."

The meeting will take place at Nescot College, in Reigate Road, Ewell, on Thursday at 7.30pm.
