Students celebrated at St John’s School in Leatherhead this morning, which achieved particularly “exceptional” GCSE results in science.

Just under 55 per cent of grades were at A* to A at the independent school, in Epsom Road, Leatherhead, with 97 per cent achieving A* to C.

The overall pass rate at the school was 97 per cent.

Martin Collier, headmaster, said: “Our pupils have worked very hard and it is a pleasure to see them reaping the rewards that dedication and commitment bring.

“All eyes are on the exceptional results in the science department this summer as work commences on our new £3.6 million science building.

“With 66 A* grades and an incredible 35 per cent A* pass rate in biology, the department is going from strength to strength.”

Top achievers at the school included Amelia Nevill who got 10 A* grades, and Megan McInnes and Lois Graham who achieved 9 A* grades.

A further eight students got six or seven A* grades.

Amelia said: "I am so relieved and so so happy. 

"My results opens lots of doors for me including the possibility of applying for Oxbridge in the future – I am absolutely thrilled."
