Schoolchildren, young people and council leaders ceremonially broke ground on a multi-million pound leisure centre on Friday.
Construction company Pellikaan has also announced that the complex in Merland Rise will be called Tadworth Leisure and Community Centre.
Friday’s ceremony included the ‘first dig’ for the creation of the new six-lane swimming pool as well as speeches by the leaders of Reigate and Banstead and Surrey Councils.
Children, from Epsom Downs Primary School, and young people, from Surrey County Council’s youth steering group, took part in the event.
The centre will include a gym, football pitches, space for community activities, a dance and exercise studio, sports hall, café, crèche and a neighbouring youth skills centre.
