A fundraising father and son team are trekking more than 5,000 metres up to Everest Base Camp accompanied by a professional adventurer and triple Guinness World Record holder.

Stoneleigh’s Clive Hagley and his son Max Hagley, from Ashtead, were due to set off today from Namche Bazaar in Nepal on the second phase of their trek, provided the heavy snowfall eases off.

They are part of an expedition organised by Unfinished Business Society, an organisation set up by entrepreneur and experienced adventurer Roger Davies and Guinness World Record Holder Jan Meek, who lead all the expeditions.

Ms Meek holds the records for being part of the first mother and son team to row any ocean and to walk or ski to any Pole, and for being the oldest woman to walk or ski to Magnetic North Pole aged 62.

The Hagley father and son team are raising money for a family friend, from Stoneleigh, who suffers from Chronic Granulomatous disorder - a genetic condition that affects the immune system.

The money raised will go towards a holiday for the youngster, who has been in isolation for more than a year.

Mr Davies said: "This is not an easy trek and the final part is especially challenging, but it is very rewarding once you see the spectacular view."
