A scout group has paid tribute to a "very caring" man who played a leading role in scouting for decades.
Ken Parminter started his scouting career in 1960 and went on to receive an MBE for services to young people and the Silver Wolf Award, the highest award made by the Scout Association.
He died on March 5 at the age of 94.
Neil Dallen, group leader of the 7th Epsom (Methodist) Scout Group, said he was a scout when he met Mr Parminter for the first time.
Mr Dallen said: "He was very kind, very caring and fair but firm. He always seemed to have time for people. He was very able."
Mr Parminter, who was once a partner at Douglas and Co estate agents in Epsom, started out as 7th Epsom Cub Leader in 1960 and became the group scout leader two years later.
He quickly rose through the ranks of the scouting movement, won the Medal of Merit in 1970 and became district commissioner for Leatherhead a year later.
He later moved to Storrington and became county commissioner for West Sussex. At the age of 65, he was made county chairman.
He was awarded the Silver Acorn in 1984 and the Silver Wolf in 1989.
