Homelessness doubles in Elmbridge
8:00am Thursday 2nd August 2012 in Elmbridge By Louise Robertson
Homelessness in Elmbridge has doubled in the past year.
Figures released by SSentif showed the number of households accepted as priority homeless in Elmbridge in 2011-12 was 16, compared with ight in 2010-11.
Dominic Raab, MP for Walton and Esher, said: “Elmbridge may be reasonably well of, but it is a myth that we live in a land of milk and honey.
“The rise in homelessness in three years, from two people to 16, is an indication of that.
“It strengthens the case for ensuring a fairer funding formula from central government for parts of the south-east that contribute an enormous amount in taxation, but see too little of it back for
public services and social support."
