Hundreds of Surrey children help Marie Curie Cancer Care

A painting competition has helped youngsters learn about science and nature and has raised awareness of important charity work to help cancer sufferers.

The competition, organised by Marie Curie Cancer Care, saw hundreds of children from Surrey schools and groups paint wrappers for daffodil pots. First prize was won by Hannah, a member of the 9th Walton Brownies.

Unit Guider Suzanne said: “We all had a fantastic time getting our hands dirty with the Mini Pots of Care scheme, for some of the children this is the first time they have taken part in planting.

“I am so pleased that Hannah has won first prize in this competition as she is a keen artist and worked very hard on decorating the pot wrapper.”

The painting competition completed the Mini Pots of Care scheme, encouraging children to plant daffodil bulbs in autumn and nurture them, painting pots for them in spring. The children then take their daffodils home to someone they care about, in return for a small donation to the charity.

The money raised from the scheme helps Marie Curie provide nursing for cancer patients.
