A flag raising ceremony marked Armed Forces Week.

The mayor of Elmbridge Councillor Janet Turner was at the Civic Centre in Esher on Monday, June 25, for the occasion.

A specially-commissioned flag was raised on the flag pole at the front of the council building and remained there until Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 30.

The mayor was joined by local ex-servicemen and women as well as Reverend John Kronenberg who blessed the flag and led the prayers.

Coun Janet Turner said: “It is right that we remember the bravery and commitment of our armed forces, who risk their lives and debilitating injury in their line of duty.”

The flag was raised to the accompaniment of pipe sergeant Ronald McKenzie Brown from Oatlands Park Pipe Band.

Sergeant Alex Wright, Corporal Joe Finnis and cadet Conor Lamb from Esher Squadron Air Cadets were in attendance.
