Elmbridge Council housing downsizing scheme begins
10:12am Thursday 21st June 2012 in Elmbridge By Louise Robertson
An initiative offering help and financial assistance to tenants who want to downsize launched on June 15.
The Perfect Fit scheme, between Elmbridge Housing Trust (EHT) and Elmbridge Council, was officially launched by council leader Councillor John O’Reilly.
He said: “Perfect Fit is a win-win. It’s already helping Elmbridge Housing Trust tenants who want to move to a smaller home to do so thereby freeing up larger homes for families that need them.
“It also delivers tremendous value for money for both the council and EHT in meeting local housing need.”
Maureen Wright, the first person to take up the offer, was at the launch and said her move was life-changing.
Elmbridge Council has provided £70,000 to fund up to 20 moves under the scheme this year.
The previously under-occupied properties will be made available to larger families in need of more spacious housing.
