A dedicated dad took action figure Buzz Lightyear up the highest peaks in Britain to fulfil his sick son’s wishes.

The three peaks challenge – completed in under 24 hours – raised more than £18,000 for a fund set up by the five-year-old boy’s father Alex Smith.

Harrison’s Fund was named after Harrison Smith from Cobham, who in January 2011 was told he had duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The genetic condition causes muscle weakness and currently has no cure, so Mr Smith and a team of friends, including Buzz, took on the challenge to raise as much money as possible.

Harrison was too young to complete the climbing challenge so asked for Buzz Lightyear, from Toy Story, to take his place.

Mr Smith said: “Everyone did incredibly well; this is not a challenge to be taken lightly.

“I ran the Virgin London Marathon last year and this was considerably harder. I have been astonished by the generosity of money, time and spirit shown by everyone involved. “Over £18,000 is an incredible total. I’m just so proud.”
