Weybridge couple aims to raise thousands for cancer charity
2:06pm Friday 17th February 2012 in Elmbridge By Alex Mathews
Weybridge’s Birger Balteskard will run the Virgin London Marathon for charity Children with Cancer.
Mr Balteskard, who works for an oil and gas company, is joining the Mr Men and Little Miss team and aims to raise £4,000 for the cause.
Running any marathon is a daunting task and, with the London Marathon 26.2m, it is an event that that is not approached without the right preparation and training.
Mr Balteskard, whose wife Angela is also running on April 22, has been in a gruelling training regime leading up to the race, with the only respite the occasional glass of wine before bed.
The couple have been out rain or shine on “long, hard, almost inhumane training runs” in preparation for the event and said on their fundraising page that they felt “immensely privileged to have been given the opportunity to raise money, by taking part in one of the greatest shows on Earth, for Children with Cancer UK”.
