The council is considering a huge financial boost for Elmbridge’s voluntary sector.
Cabinet members in Elmbridge discussed the introduction of a Jubilee Fund, a one-off infrastructure fund set up to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
The aim of the £120,000 fund is to inspire and equip the voluntary sector to respond to the needs of the community.
It would run alongside the council’s Olympic Legacy Fund, which allows sports clubs to bid for up to £8,000.
Councillor John O’Reilly, leader of the council, said: “I have seen the difference that a financial contribution from the council can make to help make a reality of outstanding projects.
“For example, I have been really impressed by the way that our contributions have been used on community initiatives such as the Claygate Pavilion and Riverhill Project in Cobham and I am eager to build and extend support to other projects.”
A final decision will is expected at a full council meeting on February 22.
