A school has sent out a warning to parents after a man in Thames Ditton attempted to lure a teenage girl into his car earlier this month.

The incident took place at about 6pm on Saturday, October 10, when a 15-year-old girl walking down the Portsmouth Road end of St Leonard’s Road was approached by a male driving a maroon coloured saloon car.

The man asked the girl to get into the car, but she ignored him and carried on walking.

He was friendly at first but then became aggressive.

However, a spokesman for the police said at no point did he attempt to grab or touch the girl and he eventually drove away.

The man was described as Asian, in his late 40s, with a moustache and bad teeth.

The car was described as an older square-style saloon with tinted windows.

Officers from the Dittons and Hinchley Wood safer neighbourhood team have visited the girl and her family to provide reassurance and personal safety advice.

They have increased patrols in the area and are working closely with schools in the area to increase awareness.

Following the incident, Hinchley Wood School, where the girl is a pupil, sent out a "stranger danger" warning letter to parents.

A spokesperson for the school said: "The school was informed of the incident by Surrey Police and with their advice we sent out a letter to parents and students.

"The letter was written in a balanced way so parents are aware of what happened, but so the incident does not cause them too much concern."

Surrey Police said they had not received any reports of similar incidents in the area.

Anyone who has witnessed any suspicious incidents or with any information should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
