Football fans can sometimes put the game above else, according to new research by Green Flag.

Its figures show 15 per cent of Londoners - 18 per cent nationally - would rather give up sex forever than never watch their team again.

More than 1,000 Britons were surveyed and nearly half the respondents would quit watching football altogether if they could never see who they follow again.

Some even said they would give up a kidney - eight per cent - to stop their club from dissolving.

To test this devotion, a social experiment was performed over the weekend on both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur fans during the north London derby, the result of which means Spurs will finish above Arsenal in the Premier League for the first time in more than 20 years.

In the experiment, fans of both teams were hypnotised to support the opposing team.
