Workers from Highways England were called to clean parts of the A3 between Cobham and Esher following a fuel spill from a lorry.
Ten litres of diesel leaked from a grey Vauxhall transporter onto the northbound carriage just before 1pm.
Firefighters from Painshill and Esher were called to make the scene safe, and left when workers from Highways England arrived to clean the spill.
