The killer who hacked his wife to death with an axe and knife is to be sentenced today for manslaughter.

Sanjay Nijhawan, 46, was on trial at Guildford Crown Court accused of murdering his wife Sonita, 38, on May 21.

She suffered more than 150 injuries to her head, neck, hands and thighs in the attack.

Mrs Nijhawan’s body was found by her father and sister-in-law in the kitchen of the couple’s newly-built home. They had moved in just days before she was killed in Crossfield Place, Weybridge.

The court had heard Nijhawan was "suffering from an abnormality of mental functioning, resulting from a depressive illness" before he killed his wife.

A jury returned a verdict of 11-1 in favour of a manslaughter conviction on October 7.
