Commuters and shoppers will face traffic chaos as roads around Walton High Street will close for more than two months for repairs to collapsed Victorian sewer mains.
Repairs will take place between the markers on the map
Thames Water, in conjunction with eight 2o, will undertake the repairs along some 75 metres of Bridge Street from the junction near Carpetright as the Victorian piping under the one way system has collapsed in several places.
Modern technology will replace the piping to “diminish the leakage risk”.
The works will last for a week from August 1 and the one way system in Bridge Road will be replaced by a two-way system and temporary traffic lights.
The High Street from near KFC to Bridge Street will close the next week for further excavations along the road.
Churchfield Road will be closed at its junction with the High Street for a further two months from August 15, causing traffic hell for commuters and shoppers.
Thames Water mechanics expect the project to be concluded with the connection of the sewer to the drain system at the junction of the High Street and New Zealand Avenue.
