Steak frites and moules marinieres will come to town as French chain Cote Brasserie sets up shop in Weybridge high street next year.

The Parisian restaurant will move into 43 to 45 Church Street next to Sullivan’s Bistro Bar, only around the corner from fellow chain restaurant Prezzo and Italian eatery, Osso Buco.

Planning permission was granted on the terms deliveries to the site would only to be carried out between 8am and 10pm, with rubbish collected during the same hours.

Councillors at the Elmbridge Council’s west area planning committee also demanded windows and doors should be closed between 10pm and 8am to stop noise getting into neighbouring homes.

Weybridge North Councillor Ramon Gray told the agent for Cote Brasserie there were “a number of issues”.

He said: “We expect no smells, no vibrations. All these issues must be very clear. These are onerous conditions.

“We expect you to be the perfect neighbours and we will hold you to account on this."

Residents complained that the lack of parking in the area would cause visitors to the restaurant to park in residential roads, increase traffic and impact on the character of a conservation area at the November 9 meeting.

Fears about the odour from bins at the back of the restaurant impact neighbouring homes were also mentioned.

Coun Gray told the chamber that he himself lived behind a restaurant and understood objectors’ comments, but was firm that concerns over parking were not "going to be accepted as a reason to reject this application".

Councillor for Cobham Fairmile, Tim Gray, added: "The high street is changing and whether we like it or not we have to embrace it.

"My biggest concern is bins being filled at unreasonable hours."

The application had received 23 letters of objection from 13 separate addresses before the decision at Esher Civic Centre was made with councillors voting for the proposal with four to one.
