The former Weybridge home of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr is to be demolished by its owner.

Sunny Heights, the home formerly owned by the Beatles drummer, is situated in the exclusive St George’s Hill estate, close to John Lennon’s Kenwood home.

The house’s new owner, Vladimir Scherbakov, plans to rebuild a modern-looking house in its place with a swimming pool, staff quarters and gym, ground floor library, office, entrance hall and six bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms.

The ground floor will boast an entrance hall, library, reception, breakfast room and dining room along with space for three cars at the front of the property.

Starr is thought to have lived in the house from the mid-sixties for around three years.

Councillor for St George's Hill, Brian Fairclough, said: "It's a great shame that his [Starr's] house is to be laid down for yet another bland lookalike house in St George's Hill.

"The estate is no longer exclusive, it just remains expensive and it's completely lost its character.

"People in St George's Hill confuse expensive with exclusive, there is just so much development up there that it’s now ruined."

The Surrey Comet previously published that the owner was the former deputy prime minister of the USSR and founder of Avtotor Holiday - also called Vladimir Scherbakov.

A spokesman for Mr Scherbakov has made clear that he is not the owner of Sunny Heights and the similarity of his name with that of the owner was completely coincidental. We would like to apologise for any confusion caused.
