Leaping out of a plane at 12,000ft is one of the more adventurous ways to celebrate turning 50, and a Walton woman did just that.

Jo Gelona took part in a sponsored sky-dive in memory of her friend Julie Taylor, who was cared for by Princess Alice Hospice last summer, and raised money for the charity by jumping out of a plane.

She said: "I have always wanted to do a sky-dive and thought that this would be a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for such an essential service in memory of an amazing lady.

"I was very grateful to my family and friends for supporting me in this adventure, especially my husband Tim and my children Chloe and Jacob, who were cheering me on from the ground."
