The borough is ready to bloom into colourful life as wildflower gardens in nine sites will sprout from a £5,000 donation.

Elmbridge Council has launched a new ecological project to increase biodiversity in the area by attracting wildlife to the meadows.

Enterprise, which donated the money, started a nationwide project to celebrate their 20 years in the UK.

The meadow planting is expected to start in late summer. Local community groups including the Scouts and Active Retirement Groups are ready to help during community planting days.

A planting day has already taken place with children from St Andrew’s School helping to plant seeds at Cobham Recreation Ground on May 19.

Councillor Mary Sheldon, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: "We’re extremely keen for residents to get involved with the meadow planting.

"It’s a fantastic way to create community spirit, it has great educational and, of course, aesthetic value."

The areas that will be planted are:

• Oxshott High Street
• Queens Road/Seven Hills Road, Weybridge
• Limes Road, Weybridge
• Queens Road/Hanger Hill, Weybridge
• Sir Richard's Bridge, Walton
• Barley Mow Roundabout, Hersham
• Hampton Court Way Islands, East Molesey
• Walton Road (opposite East Molesey Police Station)
• Esher Traffic Island, Esher
