Plans are reignited to develop a cycle and footbridge over the River Thames from Walton to Sunbury.

Championed by the Lower Sunbury Residents' Association (Losra), there are hopes to create a new way to cross the river on foot, without having to go to Walton or Hampton Court bridge.

This proposal is not a new one, having been suggested about 15 years ago, and the Losra is keen to get the ball rolling again.

Alan Pascoe, a Sunbury resident, said in the introduction to the online feasibility report, commissioned by Losra: "The River Thames is one of our greatest assets, but it's also a barrier between places where people live, work and take their leisure. Losra believes that a car-free bridge would be of enormous benefit to a wide area both north and south of the river.

"It would mean safer and shorter non-polluting journeys to work, schools and recreation.

"In short the river is a beautiful linear park but is also prevents easy sharing of the excellent amenities that exist on either side of the waterway."

Exhibitions are to be held on Wednesday, April 15, from 7pm to 10pm and on Saturday, April 25, from 2pm to 6pm, at the Riverside Arts Centre in Thames Street, Sunbury.

Possible crossing points and locations have been looked at but as details are not finalised yet suggestions are welcomed on the residents group website at losra.org.
