Patients will be asked to describe their "ideal community hospital" this week as part of a major review of services.

Members of the public are invited to take part in workshops in Esher this afternoon, Epsom tomorrow, Leatherhead on Wednesday and Dorking on Thursday.

Clinical commissioners, responsible for buying healthcare, are carrying out the review of services at New Epsom and Ewell, Leatherhead, Dorking and Molesey Community Hospitals.

Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group said on its website: "We will be hosting patient and public workshops every month during the Community Hospital Services Review.

"Workshops in April will explore the question: What is your ideal community hospital?"

More than 1,000 people have signed a petition to guard against the potential closure of Leatherhead Hospital and make sure its Leach Ward reopens.

The CCG says the review is looking at what services exist, what services the population will need in the future and how these services should be organised.

  • St Barnabas C of E Church, Temple Road, Epsom; Tuesday April 14; 2pm to 3.45pm
