A mother has raised more than £4,500 for a blood cancer charity, in memory of her son who always wanted to run the marathon.

Annie Moore, 62, lost her son Tom in January last year when he was just 35-years-old. He had acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) diagnosed in September 2013.

In his memory Ms Moore, from East Molesey, is getting ready to push her body to the limit in the Virgin London marathon on Sunday, April 26, to fundraise for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

A match was found for a stem cell transplant but he relapsed just after Christmas 2013, and was admitted to intensive care after developing an infection which led to pneumonia.

Ms Moore said: "Tom was a wonderful son and human being who had great passion for life, sport, his family and friends. One of his intentions was to run the London Marathon and he entered the ballot several times but was unsuccessful. After he died last year I decided to enter the ballot and then immediately forgot about it.

"When I found out I'd got a place I was absolutely overjoyed and immediately knew that this was a sign from Tom for me to 'do it' for him.

"Not a day goes by when he isn't in my heart. I rejoice and grieve while running and training with his memories."

She owns a spa Vidatherapy in Teddington and through fundraising events and donations from the Premier League, where Mr Moore worked, surpassed the original £3,000 target.
