A Sunday walk with three young children turned into a "disgusting state of affairs".

Dean Smallhatch wrote in to complain about indecent actions he saw while strolling in Desborough Island, Weybridge.

Mr Smallhatch was out with his children aged four, five and seven on Sunday, February 1, at about 2.30pm on a path leading off Walton Lane.

He said: "Out in front of us, the path opened up and three elderly men, in their 70s to 80s, were dressed in female clothing, namely tennis skirts, and they were engaging in sexual activity."

Mr Smallhatch and his children returned to the car.

At this point he discovered a handwritten note with an offer he did not want to take up and directions to a website which, he said upon further investigation, was a gay cruising website listing Desborough Island as a popular hook-up point.

His ordeal continued when, driving away, he saw a man walking along Walton Lane completely naked.

He said: "My children have been very upset by this and I am now very concerned.

"These areas are public and there are lots of women and families who would be very upset by this blatant and grossly offensive behaviour."

He said the council should seal off the area of cut down the bushes to prevent further activity.

When searched on the internet, the location currently comes up on many cruising sites as a popular location to meet other men looking for similar outdoors activities.

However Elmbridge Council said they had not received any complaints about any inappropriate behaviour in the area in the last six months.

Surrey Police said: "Officers from the Elmbridge safer neighbourhood team carry out regular patrols of the Desborough Island area and do so with the community’s concerns regarding indecent incidents in mind.

"All reports of criminal behaviour are taken seriously and will be dealt with robustly, however any action taken by officers must be proportionate and within the confines of the law.

"The force is fully aware that sexual activity in public can cause offence to those who unwillingly witness it."

This area has been known to be a site for cruising in the past, having been discussed at a Weybridge Police Community Partnership Group in 2006.
