Hersham Memorial Garden is to be awarded the status of centenary field.
The project is a national initiative which protects war memorial fields, parks and green spaces created in memory of those who lost their lives during World War I.
The garden in Hersham will now be protected as part of a nationwide legacy.
Councillor Mary Sheldon, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: "It means there will always be a remembrance space to commemorate our local soldiers' sacrifice at the heart of our local community."
Martin Fletcher, vicar at St Peter's Church, said dedicating the memorial garden as a centenary field was a fitting way to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI.
