Two purses were stolen from handbags while the victims were shopping for groceries.
The first theft took place on Tuesday, November 4, between 3.35 and 3.45pm at Sainsbury's in Queens Road, Weybridge, when a woman found her purse had been taken from her bag.
The second theft happened on the same day between 3.15pm and 3.50pm when a woman shopping in the Waitrose store in the High Street discovered her purse was missing.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Following the reports officers are reviewing local CCTV footage and urging anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in either store at the time of the offences."
Anyone with any information should call 101, quoting reference 45140093237 regarding the theft at Sainsbury’s and 45140093262 in relation to the theft at Waitrose.
