A water heater melted in the kitchen of Thames Ditton Centre and filled the building with smoke.
Firefighters from Esher were called to the centre at 8.50am and used breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to find the source of the smoke.
The water heater in the kitchen was found to have a fault, which caused it to overheat and melt to the wall.
The crew was there for an hour and a half tackling the small fire.
No one was injured at the centre in Mercer Close, Thames Ditton.
The centre is currently closed.
