A 14-year-old boy suffered a broken cheekbone after being attacked by a group of four boys as he walked through a park.

The boy was walking through Ashley Park, Walton, with friends, when he was approached and chased before being attacked.

It happened at about 11.30pm on Friday, September 26.

The group of boys, believed to be in their mid-teens, chased the victim until he tripped. He was struck on the left side of his face and required hospital treatment with a broken cheekbone.

A member of the public intervened and defended the boy from the group, before they left the area.

The main offender was wearing a grey sweatshirt and was white with a tan, about 15 years old, 5ft 8in with dark brown hair.

Detective Constable Felicity Bracewell said: "This was a particularly nasty, unprovoked attack on a teenage boy.

"I would like to express my thanks to the member of public who came forward to help the victim - her selfless actions in shielding the boy from the attacking group are commendable."
