A 36-year-old man was left with a fractured skull and injuries to his face and arm, after an unprovoked assault during the morning rush hour.

The man was walking along the footpath on Wednesday, September 10, in Fleece Road, Long Ditton with his partner when a man approached him in a car, got out of the vehicle and punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the floor where he was further assaulted.

The attacker got back into the car, believed to be a silver Mercedes, and the man was taken to hospital.

Detective Constable Jamie Spooner said: "This was a really nasty incident where a man has been the victim of a vicious unprovoked attack in broad daylight.

"The assault happened in a busy area during the morning rush hour so I feel certain that passing motorists and pedestrians must have seen this attack taking place and I am appealing for further witnesses to come forward."

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and is on bail until October 22 while enquiries continue.
