Work on a new splash park has started on Monday at Hersham Recreation Ground.

About 90 per cent of Hersham residents were for the plans to convert the current paddling pool into a splash park.

The play area will remain open but some parking space will be used by contractors vehicles while the work is carried out.

It should take about eight weeks to complete and will be ready well before next summer, when the nozzles that spray water upwards will be enjoyed by children, and perhaps the odd adult.

Councillor Mary Sheldon, portfolio holder for leisure, said: "Having the new splashpark in Hersham Recreation Ground will make next summer even more fun for children - and for their families too."
