A new grant scheme to support projects for the older generation has been launched.
The Iris Simmons Community Award Scheme, a joint venture between Elmbridge Council and the Rosemary Simmons Housing Association, will allow non-profit organisations, groups and projects to benefit from up to £1,000.
The money will be used to help older people in the borough with fuel poverty, IT access, safety initiatives and similar projects.
The fund was launched at a ceremony on Wednesday, July 2, with the mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Barry Fairbank, community groups and voluntary organisations in attendance.
Paul Yates, chief executive of Rosemary Simmons Housing Association, said: "This association and its residents owe a huge debt of thanks to Iris Simmons who founded us in the late 1950s with her husband Roger.
"I know that Iris was very passionate about supporting older people in Elmbridge so this award is just one small way of continuing her work in this area."
