Repair work to the banks of the River Mole have been completed, after a turbulent winter caused extensive damage.

The Environment Agency (EA) carried out the project on the banks of the river at west Molesey which involved installing 250 large mesh filters to patch up the banks.

It is the first time such filter units have been used to repair damaged river banks.

Tim Connell, EA operations manager, said: “The project at west Molesey has gone very well so far and we will continue to work in the area to ensure our flood defence assets are ready to protect people and communities if called upon again.”

The EA is scheduling a programme of work to carry out long-term repairs to the banks of the River Mole, which should take place later in the year.
