A team of former Royal Marines, who plan on rowing across the Atlantic in January, were given a river-rowing lesson by Surbiton hero Chris Martin.
Chris, 25, crossed the Atlantic in a one-man vessel earlier this year in 68 days.
The four men of Team Quest plan to beat the current record of 35-and-a-half days, held by La Mondial's French team of 11 men since 1992.
"It's a fantastic challenge they've set themselves," said Chris, of Lovelace Road, who gave them expert tuition at Molesey Boat Club.
"They're extremely tough guys."
The team aims to raise money for Barnardo's and the Royal Marines Association.
