Police are appealing for information after more than 30 bronze plaques were stolen from the Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Seven bronze plaques were taken from the Warlingham park on Thursday 16 August, between 1.15pm and 2.30pm. Six of them were found nearby a short time later.

A further 25 plaques were stolen from the park between 7.30pm on Saturday 18 August and 3.30pm on Sunday 19 August.

Detective Constable Errol Chetty of Reigate CID, said: “This is an appalling act of selfishness where the offenders have deliberately ruined memorials of loved ones for their own profit without a moments thought for the families and friends of those who the plaques are for.

“I would urge to anyone in the area around the time the thefts took place to contact Surrey Police as a matter of urgency.”

Tandridge Neighbourhood Specialist Sergeant Kevin Simpkins, said: “Officers from the Tandridge Neighbourhood Team will be stepping up patrols and carrying out enquiries in the local area and with scrap yards in a bid to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference number, TD/12/3694

This country goes further and further down the pan every day.

If no one steps in to change peoples attitudes, what will it be like in twenty years in this country?

The politicians have failed.

I've noticed scrapyards have started advertising on the local radio stations - top money for iron, brass, cable etc!

This is a new mixed, liberal country, we should be proud of our gettos, cultural and religious disharmony, gangs, overcrowding, chavs. binge drinking and soft punishments - Our governments and media have worked so hard to promote these ethics - we can't whinge now.......eh?

I blame Eastenders.........!
